My dog seems to be afraid of rain, outdoor moisture...?

Ok so, our 2 year old dog seems to really really dislike the rain and absolutely will not go outside when it's raining, has rained recently or even when it's misting, no matter how badly he has to pee. He has had several "accidents" in the house because of this due to the fact that it has been raining here for almost a week straight. Now we have a doggie door so the yard is ALWAYS available when we're home. One time I was leading him outside for the final potty of the night and he stopped halfway through the door, backed up and peed on the floor (for like 3 mins) right in front of the door. My husband is getting really fed up with cleaning up after him. Tonight the dog waited until he was laying under our bed, and started peeing while he was laying there. This is unacceptable behavior but we don't know what to do about it. My husband is talking about making him a full-time outside dog if this happens one more time. I don't know how I feel about this seeing as we live in a condo with a very small fenced in yard (with a gap in the fence that makes me nervous), and I just don't know how this would effect our dog after being an inside dog with us for a year. Does anyone have any advice?? I did talk to a pet trainer at PetSmart and he suggested just forcing him outside when it's wet and make him stay out until he finally pottys and we forgot to do that tonight and I feel totally at fault for his accident tonight. Please someone help us, we are getting desperate!

Yes you got the answer. There is a change in the house. a new addition.
So basically your dog has to remark everything to say, hey this is my space.. You could put a raincoat(doggy one) on your dog and show him it is okay to go toilet. Go outside with him. If he does not want to, then don't force the issue.
Dogs will pee and poo where another dog has been. It is instinctive. Your poor dog is not thinking house= no pee.
He sees new puppy.. need to mark my space,
Please re home if it comes to that. Dogs are not meant to be outside. It will cause him emotional upset and he will bark the neighbourhood down.

time to put out pp pads or newspaper next to the doggie door until you get to the bottom of it.
If there is thunder and lightening with that rain, some dogs are afraid of it.

i work in a clinic, so im not very in depth as far as the behavior aspect of your problem (seeing the puppy potty in the house). however since your dog gets very nervous with rain, you can but over-the-counter medicines for dogs with anxiety. i personally like Quiet Moments, it is completely natural and can be bought at any pet supermarket store. hope this helps

How about getting your dog and puppy newspaper trained so that they can pee on newspaper laid on the floor once they get used to the smell of newsprint? Always leave a piece of pee-stained newspaper on the thick newsprint on the floor to attract your dog to pee on the spot. They will then learn to pee on newspaper in the house and on the lawn once outside. Obviously your dog is afraid of the rain and dogs have a great sense of the weather and accompanying sounds. There may be rumbles of thunder we human cannot hear but only dogs can hear. So please don't force him outside as that's simply cruel and heartless to do that to an already terrified dog. I paper trained my small dog as a puppy by confining him in a 4-sided plastic wrapped wire enclosure with bare floor, thickly lined with newspaper and furnished it with a cushion and dish of water. He was left in there after meals for a couple of hours and during pee & poo time (estimate it), then once he got used to paper, I left the door ajar for him to run in to pee & poo. If you don't like to be in the rain, surely your dog doesn't like it too, so don't force him. Often my dog aims wrongly and pee gets outside the newspaper but since I love my dog dearly, I clean up after him. Your husband doesn't sound like an understanding dog owner and expects the dog to behave like him.
