Well it's best to put a potty in its cage so that it's floor and waste are in separate places (so he doesnt drag excrement around on his fur) and you need to clean it's cage once a week. If you have a short haired hamster there is no need to worry about it's coat- it'll manage to keep itself clean. A long haired hamster on the other hand will probably need a little more help. You can use a clean toothbrush to gently comb through any tangles etc. This is also a good way to bond. Although it is not really made for hamsters, you can buy special rodent sand they can clean their coat in (this works only for dwarf hamsters most of the time, and even then they don't take to it as it is not a natural behaviour for hamsters). I hope this helps! Hamsters are naturally quite clean animals so shouldn't require much help. Oh, and remember; NEVER WASH YOUR HAMSTER IN WATER! NO BATHS! If he does get something sticky in his fur, you can buy special pet wet wipes in a pet shop :)
