Why is my dog scared of me?

Postby morvran73 » Fri Sep 18, 2009 7:13 pm

My dog has started to growl at me and hate me since the summer holidays. I have not hit him or hurt him in anyway. But now whenever I go near him, he growls at me. When he looks at me, he looks at me like his scared of me or is ashamed of me.

I don't know what has happened to him. We had his balls done (Sorry don't know how to spell the proper word for it), a couple of weeks ago and it's done nothing. When we took him to vets, they checked him and his perfectly healthy, so it's really confusing whats gone wrong with him.

I'm 13 year olds and I really want my dog to be my friend again, if anyone knows whats wrong with him or can give ideas, please answer.

He is not mad at you for having him neutered. He may be fearful of you for some other reason though. He also may not feel well.

Try this. Don't approach him, but ask him to come to you. Have a good treat and reward him for coming to you. The leave him alone. Every time he comes near you give him a small treat and pet him briefly if he is wanting that then leave him alone. Before long he will be following you everywhere, because he knows good things come from you.

No being posessed, no demons, no recriminations for being nuetured, no 'hating' you. You're probably just being overbearing and not understanding dog body language.
Take a look at the Calming Signals link below and try some of it out. Don't be surprised if it works because a growl is just a dog's way of asking to be given a little more space.
