Adjusting to a new home can be tough, and the stress sometimes makes illnesses your kitty may have already had but were not apparent worse. He might have an upper respiratory infection, parasites, or any number of less common things. Unfortunately without an exam (and I'm glad you're already committed to getting him looked at- good job) there's no way to tell.

At his young age he will not last long without food, so I'm hoping you intend to take him to the vet tomorrow! Most vets will let you drop him off while you are at work if your schedule is hectic, but sooner rather than later is best.

Until he sees the vet supportive care is all you can really do, since you can't really know what is wrong. Don't force feed, but tempt him with yummy things like canned food, tuna, cheese, etc. Keep him comfy and perhaps confine him to a quiet room to decrease stress.

And, no, the dog food had nothing to do with this. Dog food is not poison to cats, it just has insufficient levels of the amino acid Taurine. Long term taurine deficiency will cause heart problems, but even long term sneaking a kibble or two from the dog bowl won't do that. As long as he gets the bulk of his daily nutrition from kitty food, you're fine there.

If you've been exposing him to your dog, that's problem number one. That's way too much stress for a brand new kitty. Being this small, he should be contained in a separate room and let out only gradually, but he's not ready for full contact with the dog or it's food. He's just a baby!

And I hope you do get him to the vet.

Call the vet. They won't charge you for a phone call, and it's the only way to get answers.

That sounds like one stressed out kitten- 2 days in a new home and he's around a dog he doesn't know? You introduced them way too soon and too fast. I'm glad you're seeing the vet soon, but for now, I'd put the kitten and all his stuff (litter box, food, water, toys, bed, etc) in one room and close the door so he's in a smaller environment that he can feel safe in. Having a whole new house to deal with is enough insecurity for him, and the big dog running around isn't helping matters. He may have never even seen a dog before 2 days ago!
