Because of being alone, cats are the easiest to care for, especially if elderly and in bad health. It is so much easier than to have to walk a dog for these people. Sometimes working women find cats easier to take care of and for someone who does not have the time for a dog. Cats are the perfect pet. Also many elderly and single women who live in apartments find cats easier and they still have the attention and love of pets.

Movies love to stereotype. When was the last time you saw anything
portrayed in the movies close to real life? Okay;besides Apollo XIII.
Someone has to be shown as eccentric and since we cat lovers do
not have PC status;we are the only group left to degrade.
Incidentally;I am an unmarried over 50 male that is owned by four
cats and I am anything but crazy.

Amen @ John! Well simply put: Women find it easier to take care of then dealing with men... Older women who have cats, if they are widowed they don't feel it's right to find someone new, instead they find cat(s) to heal their heart, they don't exactly have the time or energy to deal with dogs, you noticed too older people have birds? Well at least around here they do.

Because cats are love, and those women are the ones who have realized men are good for nothing, dumped them all and switched to having cats instead.

Hey a cat will never tell you to get him a beer 'coz he's watching the game!
